Well, I have some catching up to do – been so busy having fun, not much time left to do any blogging! So here is some catch up news.
It was time to try out our new bikes and get the get the bums back into the saddle, so we set off for the town of Hamilton on the Western shores of Lake Ontario to cycle the Waterfront Trail. Although a bit dilapidated, Hamilton is a quaint old Canadian town with a lovely 15km trail along the lake shore. The weather has taken a turn and so it was slightly cold and windy today, but great to be back in the saddle and a wonderful enhancement to touring.
We watched some Canadian geese with their young and their tender parenting is so protective it’s endearing. We also watched some large fish along the lake shore nearly beaching in whilst engaged in a mating chase.
From nature to history in the afternoon, we toured the HMCS Haidi, a tribal warship that served in the Second World War. It is the only remaining tribal warship out of the 27 ships made and one of only 13 that returned from the war. Creeping around below decks gave one an appreciation for what those brave naval soldiers went through. This ship has an open bridge and spent time patrolling in the Arctic. Can you imagine how cold it must have been up there?!!! This brave little warship has sailed around the world 7 times during it’s active duty.
