Today brought our first rain of the trip, so we set off to explore Black creek Pioneer Village depicting life in the 1830’s to 1850’s. In true North American style, each building is furnished according to the period and manned by a craftsman, dressed in the clothes of the period and practicing the craft for the pleasure of visitors using the methods of the 1800’s. We had fun meeting and interacting with the blacksmith, the farmer’s wife, the baker, the printer, the weaver and the brewer who had just finished making his first barrel of dandelion beer!
This farm was originally owned by the Stone family and was donated as a museum in recent years. Some of the buildings are original dwellings and village stores and others have been moved from various parts of Ontario and re-assembled here. Being children at heart and in the true holiday spirit, we participated by dancing in the ballroom, carding sheep’s wool and trying out stilts in the garden!
