Our feet got walked off again today – we really are ending each day with sore tired feet at the moment! The 10km of trails of world famous Toronto zoo was the reason for that today. It is an amazing zoo set in a forest park with a river running through it.
The animal spacious enclosures are good recreations of their natural habitats with many “toys” and activities to give the animals as much stimulation and opportunity to play as possible. The enclosures are grouped according to continents and environmental zones. Several zoo keeper talks on the various animals take place at advertised times throughout the day and usually co-incide with feeding times when the animals are more active.
We really enjoyed watching the polar bears dive in the water after food; the gorillas with young playing with food puzzles and drinking juice from bottles; and the Indo – Malaysian section where you walk through an indoor centre and the butterflies, birds and small mammals like squirrels roam freely around you.
At Sting Ray Bay we touched the Sting Rays and Christine experienced feeding them. It took us hours to drag her away from this pool as she was enraptured.
