Taking advantage of the lovely summer day, we headed off for the Irving Nature Park which consists of a long pebble beach, forested island and salt marshes. Starting with a long walk along the beach, we enjoyed some real family time skimming pebbles, dumping rocks in the water and trying our hand at juggling and generally creating games and activities as we walked along the beach. The simple things in life are often the most memorable and we had fun taking some crazy video footage of each other’s antics.
We then drove around the forest trail arriving at the observation point which overlooked the bay and a nearby seal island which was really over populated with birds, but seemed devoid of any seal life. We were also unable to spot the elusive puffin, but we did have fun feeding the wild squirrels and seeing how close to us we could coax them. If you sit really still and hold your hand out flat on the ground, they will take food out of your hand. We also enjoyed a lovely barbeque before heading for home. Home cooked food, especially braaied meat is a real treat on a long trip like this.
I enjoyed some very rare alone time while Christine and Liam braved the masses to see the movie ‘The Eclipse”. They came back enthralled by the movie and Christine didn’t stop telling me about the movie especially Jacob for many hours afterwards!
