Crossing a time line today, puts us only 5 hours behind SA time now. We set out from Edmunston, New Brunswick and stopped in Grand Falls to look at the waterfall. The cold rainy weather (10 degrees C) and water diverted to hydro electric power station made the waterfall a disappointing trickle, but the gorge area was still pretty.
Another hour of driving brought us to Hartland where we stopped to see the world’s longest covered bridge. 380m long and 100 years old, this wooden bridge is still in use, and makes a pretty engineering structure across the river.
There was major excitement during the last leg of the day’s journey when we saw a wild black bear foraging along the clearing between the road and the forest. It was a rare sighting before our arrival in Saint John which is where Liam lived from the age of six to twelve years and attended Primary School. We checked into a pretty hotel overlooking the valley and sea shore – our first glimpse at the famous Bay of Fundy. (More about it later)
