Tuesday 15 June 2010 Continued

The most special experience was watching the Beluga whale nursery, where the mothers are rearing their young. They are such tender mothers and the baby whales swim close. In an adjacent pool and under the supervision of the trainer we experienced interacting with these beautiful creatures by toughing them, rubbing their heads and feeding them fish. I was in heaven and have always had a dream to work with sea mammals. We finished our visit some more amusement rides and a walk around the aquarium.

Having not had time to finish Niagara Falls activities yesterday, we finished off our day at the Imax theatre watching a film about the Niagara Falls, their history and legends and the maniacs through the ages that have tried to walk across them on a tight rope or go over them in a barrel. The first person to go over falls was a 63 year old woman who put her mattress and her cat in a barrel, pumped air into it and went over the falls. She survived, but many that followed her have died trying!

There are some miracle stories too and in 1970 a 7 year old boy who was involved in a family boating accident upstream, accidently went over the falls in a bathing suit and life jacket and survived, being dragged out of the water at the bottom of the falls by the “Maid of the Mist”. His sister was rescued before she went over and his father did not survive. It truly was a remarkable story.
