Wanting Christine to experience an international city, we caught the subway into Toronto today and explored the underground shopping mall with its gorgeous variety of shops and the massive food court the size of a rugby field.
Adding to the culture, we spent a few hours wandering the halls of the Royal Ontario Museum which has the most amazing collection of artifacts. Every item on display is a legitimate artifact discovered in archaeological expeditions all over the globe and the quality and variety is world class. We spent a lot of time in the Egyptian, Greek and Dinosaur halls. There were artifacts from Old Testament times in the Egyptian and Greek displays and the oldest and best find of dinosaur eggs in the world, discovered in South Africa!
We then dragged Christine up the CN Tower which is in the middle of downtown and used to be the tallest in the world before they built the Burj in Dubai. It is 348m tall and was intimidating to walk out onto the glass floor near the top and see the street so far below. We toured the 360 degree viewing platform and then had a coffee in the restaurant overlooking Toronto Island and Lake Ontario before descending back to street level much to Christine’s relief. She was terrified at the top and glad to reach ground level again.
