The Tourist trip of the Falls was next on the agenda and we proceeded to explore the Falls from the top, the bottom, behind and in front. Starting at the visitor’s centre you don a raincoat and walk out into the permanent mist to view the falls from above. They are breath takingly beautiful with millions of litres of water pumping over a 52m drop every second. The roar of the water is deafening and defies all conversation.

As if this does not earn your respect for this creation of Mother Nature, you then descend 33m into the earth by a lift to walk through a tunnel that brings you to a point behind the falls about 9m from the bottom. With this viewpoint one starts to get a concept of the power of this tumbling water. The sheet of white water roaring over the falls prevents any visibility from this vantage point and is completely drenching. The Niagara River is second largest in the world in terms of volume, with only the Amazon being larger.
