Back on the bikes today, we enjoyed a cycle through the forest and along the river which was very picturesque. This was followed by a leisurely cruise on Lake Tremblant which is the largest of the 700 lakes in the Mont Tremblant area. The lake is at the foot of the 800m high mountain Tremblant and is 12km long ending in the National Tremblant Park. Around the town there are several waterfront homes owned by the likes of Tommy Hilfinger executives, but most of the shoreline is wild and natural.
Arriving back at the dock, we watched some mad Canadian teenagers cycling a tiny bike down a hill, up a ramp and then getting airborne on the bike before plunging into the lake. The bike had a life jacket tied to the handle bars to stop it from sinking and they seemed to be having a great time. We had fun catching their antics on video!
Heading off to the pedestrian village at the foot of Mont Tremblant and the heart of the ski resort, we took the gondola up to the summit of the mountain. The wind was howling at the summit, but enjoying the lovely view, we climbed the wooden 3 storey observation tower that was shaking in the wind to take some awesome photos.
In search of more adrenaline, we headed back to the village and went for a luge ride. This involves catching a ski lift halfway up the mountain while your feet dangle into space and then riding a plastic cart down the hill, which only has a break and a bit of steering in the form of handle bars. The gravity takes you really fast careering down the mountain and is huge fun. Christine and I were the first racers while Liam played photographer and then it was their turn to race. Two weeks later they are still arguing about who won and how, but we had a great time.
The perfect ending to this gorgeous day, was a braai at home in the long summer evening. It was fantastic to have a braai again – the things from home we miss!
