Cruising on a turquoise glacial lake was our target for today. We set out to drive to Maligne Lake, deep in Jasper National Park. The scenery en route was fabulous, towering rocky mountains, snow dusted peaks, alpine forests, glacial valleys and beautiful rivers.

Taking a cruise on the lake, we were taken up to Spirit Island. A beautiful, mystic, forested island, near the north end of the lake nestled between mountains on either side and ending in a valley leading to a glacier and ice field. The aqua marine water was just magical and I took hundreds of photos of this isolated remote area.

Travelling back home, we stopped at Medicine Lake, another beautiful lake in the area, but this one not fed by a glacier. So instead of aqua marine it is a deep blue and popular with wildlife, but all we saw was lots of Pika. These are small rodents similar to dassies, but smaller and a favourite food of grizzly bears fattening up before the winter hibernation.
